Description: Talking to Kids is a two-day training designed especially for professionals who work with children. The class offers participants the opportunity to build and strengthen skills when interacting with children once a disclosure or allegation of maltreatment has been made. This is not a forensic interviewing training, but rather a training that will assist individuals in appropriately gathering information from children regarding abuse or neglect.
This training is only for Sparta and Cookeville DCS employees.

Title: Stewards of Children
Location: UT Nashville Campus

Darkness to Light is an international non-profit organization striving to reduce the incidence of child sexual abuse by empowering people to prevent it. Their training program, Stewards of Children, is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention program that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to the issue. The cornerstone of this program is an interactive workbook and video. Components include the principles of choice, consciousness and personal power to promote an understanding of the nature and impact of child sexual abuse and provide a context for empowered action. The program incorporates the “7 Steps to Protecting our Children,” Darkness to Light’s core education tool for sexual abuse prevention. To date, Stewards of Children is the only nationally distribute adult-focused evidence-based and third party evaluated program. TNCAC is partnership with Children’s Advocacy Centers is offering the training to local communities across Tennessee.
This training has been pre-approved for the following continuing education credits (3.0 hours): P.O.S.T Commission, DHS licensed daycares, DCS, NASW, TN Commission on Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education, and the National Board for Certified Counselors
This training is being offered free of charge only to individuals who are members of the Children’s Justice Task Force.

Register to attend the Northwest Region’s CPIT Convening jointly sponsored by the Tennessee Children’s Advocacy Centers, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, Tennessee District Attorney Generals Conference and Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police. You will spend the day working with your Child Protective Investigative Team and learning how your work as a team is having an impact on children in Tennessee.
Chris Newlin, Executive Director of the National Children’s Advocacy Center will lead the day long training.
This training is open to all CPIT members working in the northwest region. The northwest region includes Benton, Carroll, Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Henry, Lake, Obion and Weakley counties.
